What I find interesting:
Kelly’s central provocation is that the most powerful technological systems will be those we don’t fully control — that emergence and self-organization, borrowed from nature, will outperform top-down engineering. I don’t entirely agree, but the argument is hard to shake, especially watching large language models evolve.
Why read it:
If you want to understand how a generation of Silicon Valley thinkers conceptualized the internet and complex systems, this is a primary source. It’s long and wandering, but the ideas are foundational.
